Young stone-cutting sculptor Sergey Chestyunin
Young stone-cutting sculptor Sergey Chestyunin and his creations of stone-cutting art
The works of this talented master of stone-cutting art are simply mesmerizing. Unusual shape, colors, images and philosophical meanings make you look at his work, almost open-mouthed in surprise. And this despite his very young age.
Sergei was educated in the homeland of Russian stone-cutting art – in the Urals. He graduated from the College of Art with a degree in… conducting a folk orchestra.
Since childhood, he was fond of not only drawing, but also music. Passion for music won and he went to St. Petersburg, where he worked as a musician. But the craving for art in this versatile talent led Sergei to the jewelry company “Empire”. Then she recruited assistant stone cutters. Surprisingly, Sergei successfully passed the interview and was accepted into the staff, having no experience in stone-cutting. I had to study a lot, including academic sculpture. A few months later, Sergei began to make the first progress and realized that stone-cutting art was his real vocation. Today, we can verify the correctness of Sergey’s choice only by looking at his amazing and bold, sometimes provocative works.
Among the works of Sergei Chestyunin there are many figurines of animals. They are incredibly realistic. It seems that we are not looking at a lifeless stone, but at a living being. The master incredibly believably knows how to convey the textures of skin, wool, scales. It seems that his mice, birds, chameleons have their own character. For example, in this work “Chameleon”, which took five months of meticulous work, the color of the stone is incredibly finely chosen, the texture of this reptile is conveyed …. Very beautiful!
Sergey’s work on the creation of a series of 12 jade animal figurines dedicated to the Eastern calendar is interesting. For each, he picked up his piece, his shade. And this is not just green jade – stones of different shades are selected – light green, apple, classic emerald green, honey and black nephrites. It will turn out, I’m sure, incredibly beautiful.
