Chinese carved tobacco bottles

Tobacco bottles were made from various materials: porcelain, jade, ivory, wood, glass, etc. A very small spoon was usually attached to the bottle to extract the snuff.

In the 17th and 18th centuries, the tradition of snuffing tobacco became part of a social ritual. It was common to offer a pinch of tobacco as a greeting to friends and relatives. Over time, tobacco bottles began to be made from valuable materials. decorated with elaborate carvings, they became a sign of status and wealth. And now these miniature works of Chinese masters are a coveted object of collecting.
