Statue of Tutankhamen’s double
This statue is one of two sculptures of Tutankhamun placed opposite each other and guarding the entrance to the tomb. The statue on a stand shows a life-size pharaoh in royal attire with a scepter supported by a papyrus flower, a mace in his hands, bracelets on his wrist and forearm. The gilded outline of the eyes stands out sharply against the dark face, emphasizing the divinity of the figure, since gold was considered the flesh of a god.

On the head is a folded shawl hut, known as one of the king’s headdresses. On the trapezoidal part of the skirt there is an inscription containing the names and titles of the pharaoh. This statue plays the role of a double of the pharaoh, who, along with other substances – the soul of Ba, the name and the shadow – was considered to be the constituent of a person on earth and in the other world. The skin color of the pharaoh is likened to the color of the god Osiris, as on the statue of Montuhotep.
