Statue of a queen from the Ptolemaic dynasty
The figurine, made of a fairly soft material – limestone, has traces of paint, which was usually used to cover products made from this stone. The queen’s bracelets and necklace are gilded. The three-piece wig is styled according to the latest fashion and is framed with a red ribbon. The woman is dressed in a long dress made of fine pleated fabric. At the waist is a red bow, emphasizing the elegant figure of the lady.
The figurine was created in the traditional style of Egyptian sculpture with a hand down, a whip pressed to the chest, as queens were usually depicted, walking on their left foot, which was characteristic of Egyptian sculpture from the era of the Old Kingdom. Unfortunately, the inscription on the pedestal has not been preserved, but the shape of the whip in the left hand of the woman, pressed to her chest, is a characteristic attribute of queens, which makes it possible to identify the figure as a queen – the wife of one of the Ptolemies of the first half of the 3rd century BC. e.
