At the end of the nineteenth century, products made in the UK using the blush ivory technology (ivory color) were very popular, and today they are valuable collectibles. The manufacturing process was complex, and the value lies more in the artistic content. The color of the porcelain is distinguished by warm ivory tones, complemented by a peach blush.

In the eighteenth century, Europeans finally succeeded in making porcelain that was as white as Chinese. But the British decided that ivory porcelain would look more interesting, and immediately set about developing a new technology that would make it possible to make porcelain of a delicate warm shade. So, in the 1870s, through trial and error, the Royal Worcester manufactory invented a technology for the production of porcelain. The first products were vases in the style of the ancient era. It is worth noting that the manufacturing process was notable for its complexity, and the British guarded patent rights with particular jealousy.

How Royal Worcester became a collector’s dream

Special clay was used in the production, the products were fired in plaster molds, which were brought from France. The surface was also treated with glaze. At the same time, the inner part was made glossy, the outer matte. Further, using airbrushes, the craftsmen tinted the products with a peach tint, brightening and darkening certain places, so an overflow was obtained. In places of gold finishing, a special primer was applied, which served as a reliable foundation. At the next stage, the products were polished to give an antique look. Then the artists applied the contour of the drawing by engraving, and after firing, all the details of the ornament were already outlined. The last stage is the fixing firing.
