GOTHIC and MYSTERIOUS CASTLES in surreal paintings by Bernard JEAN
French painter, graphic artist, tapestry researcher and teacher Bernard Jean was born in Bourges (Dep. Cher / France) in 1926. After he completed his secondary education, Bernard enters the National School of Fine Arts in Nantes, and after receiving a diploma there, continues his studies at the Higher School of Technical Education (ENSET / Paris).
In addition to his subsequent artistic activities, Bernard taught art in Nancy and then in Nice. The artist was a member of the A.S.A.R. (Artistic Association of the National Center for Scientific Research) and was awarded the Order of Academic Palms. Bernard Jean made a great contribution to research in the field of tapestries and various techniques for their manufacture.
As an artist and graphic artist, Bernard worked in the genre of fantastic realism, using the technique of pencil drawing with tinting these drawings with watercolors. When you get acquainted with the work of this artist, his works may seem somewhat monotonous, but if you take a closer look at his Gothic castles and the mysterious interweaving of buildings, you can guess that these are not frozen structures, but living organisms that are able to develop and grow in their own way. and hidden rules for us. Perhaps it is for this reason that the artist himself defined his work as bio-surrealism. Bernard Jean died at the age of 87 in Nice, where he lived for a long time, taught and created his mysterious canvases.
