Miguel Barcelo belongs to the small, alas, category of “golden children”. Born into a very wealthy family, he was immersed in the atmosphere of art from infancy: the artist’s mother was a landscape painter. By the way, the first works of the master were born thanks to her. At an early age, the future painter created with the help of materials expropriated from his parent’s workshop.

Barcelo is not only fantastic and multifaceted, the artist’s portfolio includes paintings, sculptures, ceramic masterpieces and designer interiors. He, for example, created the ceramic interior of the Cathedral of Santa Maria in Palma de Mallorca. Imagine a 300-meter fired clay fresco. On the panel, the fruits of the earth, marine life and flora surround the Son of God. The fresco consists of two thousand fragments, previously made in a pottery workshop near Naples.

Works by Miguel Barcelo

Miguel Barcelo designed the dome of the HRC (Human Rights Council) Hall at the UN Palace in Geneva. And it turned out impressive too. The huge room turned into a fantastic cave, from the dome of which stalactites of all shades of the rainbow hung. The area of this very dome, for a moment, is almost 1.5 thousand square meters, and it took more than a hundred tons of paint to work.

The director of the Prado Museum called this symbolic cave the most important creation of Barcelo and the best example of “public art” in the last few decades. The project, by the way, cost $ 23 million: 40% of this amount fell on the state, and 60% – private investment.

Eccentric Miguel Barcelo

The artist regularly challenges himself, society, traditional art, and sometimes even gravity. What is one sculpture of an elephant, installed in the New York area and balancing on the trunk. An elephant about 9 meters tall weighs 5 tons, as the sculpture is made of bronze.

Barcelo’s paintings were already worth millions of euros, and the master was looking and looking for new ways to express himself. Miguel painted posters for bullfights; He painted scenery for performances and did many other amazing things. And in 2012, one of Barcelo’s paintings even adorned the label of the famous Chateau Mouton-Rothschild wine – it was the incredible Spaniard Baroness Philippe de Rothschild who chose the headliner for her vintage.
