Hannah Bolton Barlow (1851–1916) and Florence Elizabeth Barlow were artists who painted ceramics for Doulton & Co at the Lambeth Art Ceramics Studio. Usually several people work on the product, each of whom has his own brand.
Hannah studied at the Lambeth School of Art and worked for the Dalton Company from 1871. From 1873 to 1909 her sister Florence worked in the same company. Every sister has her own favorite story. By mutual agreement, Florence specialized in drawing flowers and birds, while Hannah specialized in drawing horses and other animals. Usually, the drawing is first cut out with a blade, then lines are drawn according to the drawing and coloring and tinting are added. Sometimes the sisters compose the same piece together. Hanna’s album is kept at the Sir Henry Dalton Gallery (Stoke-on-Trent). A wonderful picture of the sisters, surprisingly warm and light.
