Amazing paintings by Yefim Volkov

Efim Efimovich Volkov (1844-1920) – Russian landscape painter, graphic artist, member of the Society of Traveling Art Exhibitions (1879), full member and academician (1899) of the Imperial Academy of Arts.
In 1866, Efim Volkov entered the Drawing School of the Imperial Society for the Encouragement of the Arts, where he studied for one year.

The following year, Volkov attended the Imperial Academy of Arts as an auditor.
In 1871, Volkov created his first painting – “Swamp in Autumn”, and in 1872 he presented it at the exhibition of the Society for the Encouragement of the Arts. The painting made an indelible impression on the public, and it was immediately sent to London, where it received a bronze medal at the London World Exhibition. In 1873, the same painting was awarded second prize at the competition of the Society for the Encouragement of the Arts. In 1875, the artist once again achieved success – he was again awarded the second prize at the exhibition of the Society for the Encouragement of the Arts.

In 1879, a wonderful event occurred in the life of Efim Volkov again – at a general meeting of the Itinerant artists, he was elected a member of the Society.
In 1895, Efim Volkov was elected as a full member of the Academy of Arts, and in 1899, “for his fame in the artistic field,” he was awarded the title of academician.

On January 15, 1902, an exhibition of two Itinerants, members of the Academy of Arts – E.E. Volkov and V.E. Makovsky, opened in the halls of the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg. Volkov presented 417 canvases painted between 1875 and 1901.
Efim Volkov created many graphic works, such as “Road in the Village”, “View of the Environs of St. Petersburg”, “Embankment on Vasilievsky Island”, “My Dacha on Siverskaya” and others. Volkov is also known not only as a landscape artist, but also as a book illustrator. He created a number of illustrations for M. Yu. Lermontov’s poem “Fatherland”.
