Prayer before dinner by Jean-Baptiste Simeon Chardin

Jean-Baptiste Chardin painted excellent still lifes and genre scenes dedicated to the life of ordinary people. Such a scene is the painting “Prayer Before Dinner”, depicting an everyday, unremarkable plot: a young mother teaches her children to pray before eating food. For the artist, both this pious woman and her obedient children, whom she brings up in fear and love for God, are dear. The whole scene turned out to be very warm and cozy, quiet family happiness and prosperity emanates from the canvas.
