Michael Parkes – American-born artist

The work of Michael Parkes, an American artist who belonged to the hippie generation, is usually called a fabulous, magical and unusual world, where a special atmosphere reigns, and mythical animals and other creatures live outside of time and space. And this is not surprising, because Parkes is inspired by Eastern philosophy, which he imbued with while traveling around India in search of answers and truths known only to him.

Whether the long search for enlightenment was successful, and whether the maestro found all the answers, is unknown. One thing is absolutely clear – after his Indian wanderings and studying the philosophical doctrines of the East and West, Parkes’ perception of the world around him changed significantly.

Half-naked winged women, strange animals and birds, as well as other characters, as if they came from the screens of fantastic cartoons – all this is the population of the magical world of Michael Parkes. Apparently, this world was revealed to him by Eastern spirituality, or perhaps it had been peacefully dozing in the author’s subconscious all the time, and now it has seized a convenient moment to spill out. Today, almost all of Michael Parkes’ paintings are kept in private collections.
