In the collection of the Samara Art Museum there is a small double-leaf table screen, a fine example of Japanese decorative and applied art of the late 19th century. Such screens or screens were a true decoration of the interior, although they could also be used to protect the candle flame from drafts. Screens consisting of one leaf had a small stand for stability, and folding screens consisted, as a rule, of two leaves, although four-leaf examples are occasionally found. The decor of such screens was very diverse. Very beautiful screens are made using gold lacquer, carved ivory, and Shibayama style inlay techniques. There are porcelain, wooden, and painted screens.

The table screen from the collection of the Samara Art Museum is richly decorated on both sides. The front side with images of flowers, hens and roosters is made using the Shibayama (shibayama) technique. This is a Japanese technique of inlaying products with coral, tortoiseshell, ceramics, mother-of-pearl, ivory, precious metals and gems. The reverse side of the screen, depicting butterflies, birds and flowers, is decorated with gold lacquer in the maki-e style. In this magnificent technique, a design is applied with gold or silver powder onto a freshly varnished surface of the product.
