Guo Xi – Chinese landscape painter

Xi Guo was born and raised in Shanghai, China. She began studying painting when she was a little girl. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in oil painting from Shanghai Normal University. After graduation, she taught painting and graphic design at Shanghai College of Arts and Crafts. She is currently studying Fine Arts at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) majoring in photography.

Xi is influenced by traditional Chinese philosophy and culture, and is inspired by traditional Chinese painting. With ancient Chinese architecture, with light and shadow seeping through ancient window grilles, her watercolors show a sense of Zen. After moving to Savannah, Xi painted local landscapes and scenes. Her paintings of Savannah present the calm and serene beauty of the historic city in the south.

Xi’s recent work “Dreaming Butterfly” excavates illusions and fantasies. She uses feelings of numbness, dizziness and frustration as a source of creation. Through visible and invisible visual experiences, shadows, light and vibrations, she takes viewers into a poetic world that is fictitious, like a dream, but still taken from reality. During the creative process, she practices various methods to develop multiple identities and thoughts, overlapping memory and “here and now”, crossing time and space…
