Erwin Pauli is considered one of the best gem and cameo engravers in Germany at the end of the 20th century. Erwin has been studying the craft since 1949 with the best masters of his time – Erich Wettmann and Hermann Hahn. He was equally talented in painting, sculpture, and engraving of precious stones. This mastery is indisputably proved by his highly artistic works. He founded his own firm in 1957 and taught the art of carving to his sons, Hans-Ulrich, Andreas and Gerhard, as well as a student, Heinz Postler.
Erwin Pauli improved carving techniques and stone processing, experimented with the shape of gems, creating “free-form cameos” with stylized images. His discoveries in the field of stone carving inspired designers and jewelers to create spectacular frames.
