In the period between the two world wars, when the whole world tried to forget the horrors of war and hoped for better times, Parisian artists, designers, sculptors and jewelers worked their magic, which would later be called Art Deco style.
Claire Jeanne Robert Colin (1880-1950) – this is her full name, was born in Brussels, then moved to Paris. She studied sculpture with Jeff Lambeau. Her first works were exhibited in 1913 at the Salon of French Artists. She subsequently exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Indépendants from 1937 to 1940. Her favorite subject was exotic dancers: Mexican, Corinthian, Egyptian… Her sculptures, most of which depict graceful and full of energy female images, were exhibited in the Paris Salon for almost 30 years after her death.
Claire Colyn’s works were often performed in several versions – in bronze or in a combination of bronze and ivory. There are several sculptures by Claire Colin and in our country – in the collection of the Museum “Collection” (Moscow).
