Many of the Cartie pieces from the Art Deco period created in Paris were inspired by the aesthetics of the Orient. In these beautiful works, the motifs of Egyptian, Persian, Indian, Chinese and Japanese cultures are guessed. In the selection you will see boxes decorated with chinoiserie-style lacquer panels. This type of lacquer decor is also called burgout. The term laque burgauté refers to black lacquer pieces inlaid with tinted and engraved mother-of-pearl, silver and gold leaf.
This technique originated in China, and then took root and improved in Japan. Lacquer of plant origin from the sap of South Asian trees, applied in many layers on the surface of the product. Each layer is dried before the next is applied, and then the product is polished to obtain a waterproof, shiny surface.
