Carlo Grubacs Venice artist

Carlo Grubacs worked in Venice between 1830 and 1875.
There is little biographical information about this artist, possibly of Hungarian origin, but he is unanimously considered a student of Francesco Guardi. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. His paintings are quite small. Most likely, he worked for tourists and travelers who visited Venice. Everyone wanted to bring something as a souvenir. Of course, everyone was attracted by these bright, colorful and talented views of Venice.

His drawings for lithographic translation for albums also deserve close attention. From 1869 to 1875, he exhibited at Florentine exhibitions, always presenting views of Venice.

His paintings are kept in the Civic Museum of Bassano del Grappa (La Riva degli Schiavoni in the direction of San Marco, Burrasca di Mare) and in Germany in the Kestner Museum in Hanover and in the Grossherzoghaus in Oldenburg. His son Giovanni (1829-1919) continued his father’s work, his paintings were highly appreciated by foreign travelers.
