Artist Fedder Yuliy Ivanovich

Julius Ivanovich Fedders (1838 – 1909) – Russian painter, landscape painter, academician of the Imperial Academy of Arts.
In the life of the Latvian artist, an important stage of his creative and professional activity was associated with living in 1876-1886 and 1896-1905 in the now well-known Belgorod*. Julius Fedders began his acquaintance with the city as a teacher of drawing and draftsmanship at the Belgorod Teachers’ Institute, where he was appointed in connection with the opening of the educational institution.

Julius Ivanovich was one of the first teachers of the Teachers’ Institute, skillfully combining pedagogical skills and the talent of an artist. Thanks to his works, today a page is opened in the history of the Belgorod region of the late 19th century. A painter and a poet, he was the first to capture in his paintings the chalk cliffs – a landmark area of Belgorod, where ancient settlements were located. His picturesque landscapes contribute to a deeper study of natural changes and are of interest to both historians and geographers. The creative work of Julius Fedders is an example of the level of professional skill of the teachers of the Belgorod Teachers’ Institute.
