Adriana Johanna Haanen – Dutch painter

Artist Adriana Johanna Haanen was born in June 1814 in the city of Oosterhout, in the family of the Dutch painter and restorer Casparis van Haanen.

Adriana Johanna Haanen studied painting from early childhood under the guidance of her father. Since 1830, Adriana Johanna Haanen began exhibiting in Amsterdam, and very soon became a popular and sought-after artist, whose name was known in Paris, The Hague, Bremen, and Brussels. Art critics wrote a lot about Adriana’s work, newspapers admired her style, which was called “elegant and lush”.

Almost until the last days of her life, Adriana Johanna Haanen worked and was a sought-after artist. She died in October 1895.

Nowadays, the paintings of Adriana Johanna Haanen are known to a very narrow circle of art lovers.
